Why This Book Is Different
Engineering the real drivers of ERP success
Many organisations invest millions in ERP yet still struggle with fragmented reporting, spreadsheet workarounds, unreliable management information and disappointing business benefits. In almost every case, the software is not the problem.
The real causes lie in what organisations do with and around the software—how ERP is diagnosed, governed, strategically aligned, configured, proven, commissioned and managed throughout its operational life.
That realisation led me to develop the ERP Accelerator©, an engineering framework refined over nearly four decades of diagnosing, remediating, re-implementing and optimising ERP systems. This book challenges conventional ERP thinking and explains how engineering discipline, executive leadership, organisational psychology and responsible AI oversight can transform ERP into a strategic executive decision-support asset.
Whether you are planning a new implementation or seeking greater value from an existing ERP, this book will help you make better decisions and achieve exceptional long-term ERP performance.

When the same question produces five different answers
Confidence disappears and executive decision-making slows
Is Your ERP Delivering What You Expected?
Many ERP systems work. Far fewer deliver their full strategic value
Most ERP implementations go live successfully.
Yet months or years later many executive teams are still asking why they are not seeing the benefits they expected.
If several of the following statements sound familiar, your ERP may be functioning perfectly while still failing to deliver its full potential.
🔹 Executives wait too long for reliable management information
🔹 Finance builds board reports in spreadsheets
🔹 Different departments produce different answers to the same question
🔹 Users have developed workarounds
🔹 The ERP records transactions but provides limited executive decision support
🔹 Expected business benefits have never been fully realised
A functioning ERP is not necessarily a high-value ERP.
Many organisations decide to replace their ERP before they have diagnosed why it is underperforming.
The purpose of this book is to help you understand why—and what to do about it.

A complete engineering methodology
Integrating leadership, precision and evidence to unlock the full potential of ERP
ERP Is More Than a Technology Initiative
Exceptional ERP Performance Requires More Than Great Software
Most ERP approaches concentrate on selecting software, managing projects and implementing functionality.
These disciplines are essential, but they are only part of the picture.
This book presents a practical engineering methodology that integrates executive leadership, Strategic Alignment, Precision Configuration©, rigorous verification, organisational psychology and responsible AI oversight into a single framework for delivering predictable, long-term ERP success.
The result is an ERP that supports confident executive decision-making, sustained business improvement and continuous value creation throughout its operational life.

Three foundations. One integrated methodology.
Engineering discipline, human behaviour and AI oversight working together
Exceptional ERP Performance Rests on Three Foundations
Engineering discipline, human behaviour and AI oversight work together to create exceptional outcomes
Traditional ERP approaches concentrate almost exclusively on technology. The ERP Accelerator© takes a broader view.
It combines three complementary foundations that reinforce one another throughout the implementation and operational life of an ERP system.
Together they create a disciplined framework for delivering predictable, sustainable business value.
Engineering Foundation
Apply proven engineering principles to diagnose problems, reduce uncertainty, verify readiness and build confidence through objective evidence.
Engineers do not design bridges to stand up—they design them not to fall down. Do the same for your ERP!
Human Foundation
ERP success depends on leadership, communication, knowledge, accountability, collaboration and disciplined human conduct.
Successful ERP implementation is fundamentally an exercise in guiding organisational behaviour. The ERP Accelerator© guides and directs the Psychology of ERP Success.
AI Foundation
Artificial Intelligence can greatly enhance ERP decision-making, but only when supported by reliable data and information, sound governance and disciplined human oversight.
As AI becomes more capable, engineering discipline becomes even more important.
AI does not reduce the need for engineering discipline—it increases it.

A disciplined journey from diagnosis to sustained business value
The ERP Accelerator© Journey
A complete engineering methodology for unlocking the full potential of ERP
The ERP Accelerator© is a practical engineering methodology that guides organisations from uncertainty to sustained ERP success.
Rather than assuming that every organisation needs a new ERP, it begins by establishing the true health of the current investment. It then creates clear executive ownership, establishes strategic essence and that leads to an evidence-based decision on whether to remediate, re-implement or replace.
From that point onwards, every stage is designed to reduce uncertainty, verify readiness and engineer failure out before it can damage the organisation—creating the foundation for confident decision-making and long-term business value.

Understand the evidence before making the decision
Diagnosis replaces assumption with objective facts
Diagnose Before You Prescribe
The most expensive ERP decision is the one made before the facts are understood
Many organisations decide to replace an ERP without first understanding why it is underperforming. That can lead to unnecessary expenditure, repeated mistakes and years of avoidable disruption.
The ERP Accelerator© begins by establishing the true health of the current investment through a structured diagnostic process that evaluates:
• Executive perceptions of ERP performance
• Executive Custody and Strategic Alignment
• Precision Configuration©
• Information quality and executive decision support
• Technical health and implementation quality
• Relative cost, risk and business impact
Only then can an evidence-based decision be made.
Should the organisation remediate, re-implement or replace its ERP?

Executive Custody begins with the CEO
The only executive responsible for the whole organisation must also be responsible for the ERP that serves it
Executive Custody
The CEO Must Have Custody of the ERP
ERP is unlike any other business system. It is transverse and cross-cutting, touching every function, every department and virtually every significant business process. Only the CEO has responsibility for the organisation as a complete, integrated enterprise. That responsibility rests with the CEO.
The ERP Accelerator© therefore establishes Executive Custody, with the CEO retaining ownership and accountability for the ERP throughout its operational life. Responsibility for ERP performance cannot be delegated to IT, consultants or software vendors because none of them owns the business outcomes the ERP exists to support.
A failed ERP implementation can disrupt operations, damage customer service, weaken financial performance and, in extreme cases, threaten the future of the organisation.
Conversely, when the ERP is led from the top and managed with discipline, it becomes a powerful strategic asset that strengthens profitability, competitiveness and executive decision-making.
For these reasons, Executive Custody begins with the CEO and remains with the executive leadership team throughout the life of the ERP.
